The Ningxiang Economic and Technological Development Zone was established in February 1998 and upgraded to a national-level development zone in 2010. In 2011, its Party Working Committee and Management Committee were approved as the dispatched agencies affiliated as an assisting role of departments or equivalents under the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Hunan Province, and entrusted to the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee and the People's Government of Changsha City for management. The planned control area is 33.3 square kilometers while the built-up area spans 21 square kilometers.
It has successively won such honors as the China Food Industry Demonstration Zone, National Intellectual Property Pilot Zone, National Green Zone, National Transformation and Upgrading Demonstration Development Zone of Yangtze River Economic Belt, Hunan Home Appliances Characteristic Industrial Park, Hunan Food Processing Characteristic Industrial Park, Hunan Cosmetics Industrial Park, Hunan Environmental Protection Integrity Park, and one of the Hunan Top 10 Safe Parks Demonstration Units. It was approved by the Ministry of Commerce as one of the Top 10 outstanding national development zone cases in business environment effectiveness, and ranked 65th among the top 100 national advanced manufacturing industrial parks and zones in 2023.
Currently, 513 manufacturing industrial enterprises have settled down here, including 238 enterprises above designated size, 210 high-tech ones, 3 local listed ones, 18 funded by Fortune Global 500 enterprises, 29 invested by listed companies, 162 intelligent manufacturers above the municipal level, 5 intelligent manufacturers at national level, 57 "little giant" specialized and innovative enterprises at or above provincial level, and 2 enterprises with output value reaching 10 billion CNY each. It boasts two leading industries—smart home appliances & medical equipment and green food, and one characteristic industry, namely, advanced energy storage materials.
The development zone strives to build the largest food industrial park of Hunan Province. More than 200 food enterprises, over 3,000 kinds of products, and 60-odd first-line brands such as China Resources C'estbon, Master Kong Food, and Tsingtao Beer have settled down here. The Jiajia Food is the first listed soy sauce brand in China, while Juewei Food the first listed marinade food producer in China. The development zone has become a professional food production zone with the most complete elements and concentrated brands in Hunan.
The zone aims to create the most complete home appliance industrial park of Hunan Province. It has formed a whole industrial chain of intelligent home appliances with Changsha Gree and Hisense as the leaders and more than 30 enterprises such as CEC Digital Technology and Douhe Technology as supporting partners.
It has established the most specialized medical aesthetics industrial park of Hunan Province. It has built the only cosmetic industrial park in the province with high standards, the Beauty Valley, and constructed the biomedical and life science industrial chain with high quality. It has gathered more than 30 upstream and downstream enterprises such as Truking Sut and Mtosuki, with Truking Technology as the leader, which has become a new growth pole of the biomedical and cosmetic industries in Hunan Province.
It has cultivated an advantageous industrial cluster of energy storage materials with a national reputation. Seizing the strategic opportunity of new energy and the industry's window of opportunity, the zone has formed a different and complementary whole industrial ecology with the Ningxiang Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone and other industrial parks and zones. More than 30 industrial chain enterprises such as CNGR New Energy, Yacheng New Energy, and Jixin Lithium Industry have been introduced to the zone.
