Wangcheng National Economic and Technological Development Zone

The Wangcheng Economic and Technological Development Zone was established in 2000 and upgraded to the national level in 2014. In 2018, according to the decisions and arrangements made by the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee and the People's Government of Changsha City on optimizing the integrated and coordinated development of industrial parks and zones, the Wangcheng High-Tech Industrial Development Zone and the Wangcheng Industrial Concentration Zone were included in the integrated management of the Wangcheng Economic and Technological Development Zone. The zone spans the Xiangjiang River, bordering the Changsha West High-speed Railway Station to the west and the Tongguan Port Area to the east. It has formed a grand pattern of cross-river development with "one river and two wings", becoming an important part of the development and construction of the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area.

More than 7,300 enterprises have settled in the zone, including 29 listed enterprises; 26 enterprises invested by Fortune Global 500 enterprises, top 500 Chinese enterprises, and top 500 Chinese private enterprises; 437 "Four-Above" enterprises, which refer to the industrial enterprises above designated size, the construction and real estate development and management companies with designated qualification or higher, the wholesale, retail, accommodation, and catering companies above designated size; and, 316 high-tech enterprises. The zone focuses on the development of intelligent terminals, new alloys, green food, pharmaceutical and medical devices, and advanced energy storage materials industries. It has formed the intelligent terminal industrial cluster led by BYD Electronics and Leyard; the new alloy industrial cluster led by SNTO and CITIC Dicastal; the green food industrial cluster led by Want Want and Ausnutria; the pharmaceutical and medical equipment industrial cluster led by Jiudian Hongyang Pharmaceutical and Warrant Pharmaceutical; and, the advanced energy storage materials industrial cluster led by Jinchi Energy and Yongshan Lithium. It achieved 8% growth in total income from technology, industry, and trade, and a year-on-year increase of 10.3% in fiscal revenue in 2023.

It has been ranked first in Hunan Province for intensive land conservation for six consecutive years, and praised by the provincial government for pragmatic actions and achievements in "One-step Approval Process" reform. It has also been praised by the municipal government for pragmatic actions and achievements in six tasks such as high-quality industrial development, "Five-good" industrial zone construction, quality-driven strong city construction, fixed assets investment, scientific and technological innovation, and credit building.
