(ECNS) -- Over 800 ornamental fish from Africa arrived at Changsha Huanghua Airport aboard a cargo flight from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Sunday, marking the first such imports to the region.

Customs officers at Changsha Huanghua International Airport promptly conducted document verification and quarantine inspection upon arrival.

After completing customs clearance, the fish were transported to a designated quarantine facility, where they would remain for 14 days before being released for sale.

"These African ornamental fish mainly originate from Tanzania. Their vibrant colors and unique breeding habits, along with strong adaptability and ease of care, have made them increasingly popular in China's aquarium market," said importer Huang Zinan. This batch of fish would be distributed to aquariums across Hunan and Guangdong, followed by online sales, with plans to further expand the import of African fish and other aquatic species in the future.

To ensure a smooth import process, Changsha Customs has guided importers in establishing a designated quarantine facility for inbound ornamental aquatic animals. Through a "24/7 on-demand customs clearance" mechanism, seamless coordination from unloading to inspection and pickup has been achieved.
