Fenghuang Ancient Town is among the best-preserved ancient towns in China. Built in 1704, the town features several old buildings in the architectural styles of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, as well as elements of many ethnic groups. It is a gathering place for Miao, Han, Tujia and other ethnic groups.

Fenghuang Ancient Town enjoys a long-standing Tujia and Miao culture. The town boasts breathtaking riverside stilted buildings, former residences of celebrities such as Shen Congwen, as well as unique bar culture and a travel photography street that attracts netizens from all over the country.

The large-scale live-action show "The Shape of Fenghuang" is also very popular. The show features various programs including Miao drum dance, crying marriage ceremony, baishou dance or hand-weaving dance, and Miao embroidery, showcasing the rich folk customs and unique charm of western Hunan.

Fenghuang Ancient Town Tourist Area is among the first batch of national nighttime culture and tourism consumption clusters.
