Hunan Flower-drum Opera Protection and Inheritance Center, formerly known as Hunan Flower-drum Opera Theater, was established in 1953. It is an outstanding group among national cultural units, a national-level intangible cultural heritage protection unit, and an outstanding troupe recommended by the Chinese Opera Society.
The center, with only 18 artists in its beginning stage, now has produced outstanding performances that have won nearly all national stage art awards.
The center has created and performed a series of productions, including "I Am Ma Cuihua", "Peach Blossoms in the Misty Rain", "The Love of Hunan Embroidery", "Cai Kunshan Plows the Fields", "Huishui Bay", "The Story of A Master", "The Village Beyond the Mountain", "Huo Gong Dian", or "The Fire God Palace Restaurant", and "The New Liu Hai Cuts Firewood". These plays offer audiences aesthetic delight and profound emotional resonance through their vivid artistic images, touching storylines, and rich regional characteristics.
